The Best Cycling Routes around Munich
- Ludwigshöhe Route - Afterwork 50km
The Munich - Ludwigshöhe loop is probably Munich's most ridden route for local cyclists. Ludwigshöhe is the perfect ~50km afterwork ride that offers cyclists with panoramic views of the Alps including Germany's highest peak, Zugspitze.
The ride generally starts in the heart of Munich along the Isar Radweg in the direction of the Perlacher Forst. The Perlacher Forst offers cyclists in Munich the perfect way to escape the city, and is often a meeting point for many Group rides in the Munich area.
Once reaching Perlacher Forst, cyclists can expect well paved roads, few cars, and beautiful nature for the rest of the ride. As a Munich cyclist, I ride this loop around 1 - 2x a week, and it has always been my go-to afterwork ride when I do not have too much time. The ride generally takes 1,5 - 2 hours from the center of Munich. Some Ludwigshöhe Ride highlights include the view of the Alps at around 25km, riding through Perlacher Forst, and cycling on the "Radautobahn" from Oberhaching to Ödenpullach.
